PS4 Control Scheme Options Check/Expansion

Hello, thank you for this amazing game, I'll try to keep this brief, and if this is not the place to give Suggestive feedback for PS4 version, if possible, please direct me elsewhere.

In the PS4 version of Absolver currently, it seems to be impossible to bind two functions to the same input. This is also true for the Analog sticks even though the Default does this (the Right Analog Stick is bound to both Stance Changes and Camera movement).

Being more used to 'traditional' fighting games this has been giving me a lot of issues, basically because I am used to games/styles where 'repositioning' is slightly less important than 'attack control'. With the Stance Change on the right stick, my attempts to build the required muscle memory for the game have been an uphill struggle.

Is it possible to make the analog sticks able to bind to more than one thing in the Controller config, specifically so that I can bind Stance Changes to left analog stick? Even if this forces 'movement' to be moved to Right analog stick during battle, or, honestly, I'd say even if it went so far as to make me unable to readjust my character's position using analog stick during battle altogether I think I might be better off (there are more buttons and lock-on is the standard for fighting, so I'd figure something out).

If not that, at least to the point where movement and camera could be switched somehow, even if it's just another 'default' that I can work from to get the required effect. i.e. if I move the camera with Left Analog in normal play and move character with Right Analog at all times, this would still be really preferable for me, but as it is now, since only the default seems to allow the dual binding, I can't use nor test that config because, in the process of switching the two, I unbind the Stance Change altogether.

I didn't put this in bugs because I'm not sure it is a bug, so any answer or feedback on it would be appreciated, either from community managers or from anyone who has found a way to do this (other than rebinding controls at the PS4 system level). If this can't be done and I just 'need to get used to it' (or give up) please let me know this as well, I'm really looking forward to playing more, or at least knowing so I can make the decision if to invest in playing it.

Thank you.

  • Hey BlurryMoon,

Being unable to swap the functions of both sticks is a bug. We're working on a resolution but do not have an ETA at this time.

    Thanks for letting us know!
  • Thank you very much for this response, please keep up the good work (and pass this along to the dev team as well). Looking forward to it!
  • For anyone who was keeping track of this through this topic specifically, the latest update has perfectly resolved this (by my standards).

You will now be able to set the Left stick to both movement and Stance Change (note that you cannot set both Camera and Movement to the same stick but who would need that?)

A final point which I note might be confusing but I can't imagine considering at the level of a bug is that it will INITIALLY APPEAR that one cannot set the up direction on the stick to move to the upper part of the stance diamond. It will also appear that you cannot use the second Stance-Vertical(-) option to do this, but this is not true, it just requires you to first REMOVE (Triangle Button, when you haven't actually hit X yet to select the option to change the input button for, but are just highlighting that option) the setting from the Stance-Vertical(+) option first.

N.B.: What you are setting is the AXIS BEING USED, the DIRECTION you flick to set it (up vs down) makes NO DIFFERENCE at this time. If you consider this a meaningful problem file a bug report I guess.

As for me, thank you, Dev Team, for all your hard work! I will go forth and enjoy your game!
  • Hey BlurryMoon,

Thanks for your feedback, kind words and confirmation that your initial issue was addressed in the Downfall update. We also appreciate additional information you gave us about your perception of control mapping for PS4 now.
