Ideas for new mechanics and content

Hi everybody,

First, let me say that I feel that Absolver is a great game and has a lot of potential to become even greater.

I have been brooding over several ideas, which I would like to share and discuss.

1. Button "A" is unused in combat! I have been wondering what would be nice in a fight that we could put on that button. Since Rysrin changes stances mid-fight I wonder whether we could do that too. Let me elaborate on this, I would like to be able to create super-decks containing i.e. all number 1 decks and link a style and a weapon to it. So that deck combo one may be i.e. windfall, a sword, and my favorite hand-to-hand deck 1 and sword deck 1. Deck combo two could be forsaken with gloves and the decks no.2 and so on. To prevent wild switches it could be made to consume one essence shard when switching.

2. Since it was confirmed that there may be more regions in the future I would like to propose a game mode tied to that. The fact that certain military organizations might flourish in a post-cataclysmic world like Adal could be used to construct a game mode around these factions. In which you would conquer or join and defend their strongholds them. These could be made to playable PVE-Coop and Team-PVP.

3. I was hoping to more classic weapons like longswords and the corresponding fighting styles like HEMA with half-swording moves and moves like the "Mordhau". As previously suggested by THDante dual weapons could be so much, like dual kukri-dagger, tonfa, dual swords, katana-wakizashi-set and the corresponding moves. Obviously transformed to fit the absolver art.

4. Dungeons, in contrast to strongholds there could be ancient temples and dungeons containing legendary gear to be looted by a team of absolvers. Maybe defended by raggedy bandits.

5. Warlord mode; I was wondering about a mode where weapons won't break and heavy armor is a must. Need to think more on this...

6. More gear and re-paintable masks!

7. Bring a hairbrush! Being able to change the hairstyle and color would be cool. Something I would find wicked would be some mechanic by which you can get more or less tanned. By tracking where you fight in given amount of time could be used to change your tan?

8. modifying attack by interlinking a dodge-move / performing a different dodge move when dodging and blocking simultaneously something like a roll as a last-resort evasion move to escape attacks with high reach?

9. Performing an attack which can be executed when falling off a ledge to attack opponents below you. These could differ by your style.

Thanks for reading :) if anyone has any thoughts do let me know.

  • Hey Jensethi,

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll pass these along to the rest of the team. While we can't promise any of it will make it into the game, we do want to make sure we review all player feedback and suggestions to stay focused on adding things to the game that the community wants.
  • if they ever make dual handed weapons they will probably need to be the same length in each hand to eliminate variables when creating moves for them.

couple examples came to mind though like the hook swords.

    Sais
    Kali sticks
    wind & fire wheels
    Butterfly swords
    kamas
    krabis

    That aside.

It would be cool to have dungeons that are really hard with good loot. same goes for being able to change hair style and "dropping" attacks on opponents below.

  • The only weapons in that image that make sense to implement are the Kali Sticks.

As far as weapons go, many weapons we would like to see in the game simply don't make sense to implement due to the game's lore.

The focus on the martial arts came after the fall of the Adal empire, the Absolvers have no blacksmiths so there are no weapon makers or armor crafters, an Absolver uses what the find on their journey.

Pre-fall it appears that the equipment used was functional and military in nature, Post fall it's rare to find a passably sharp sword.

Kali Sticks and Staves I could see being justified and practical, knife fighting could be done with old spear heads, old farm implements such as axes maybe, I could see the wood rotting so an Absolver would need to jerry rig new handles on them.

There is also the lack of permanence to consider. All weapons, even high quality ones in absolver will break when over used, what happens to the duel wielding character's combat deck when one of his weapons break? The game only allows a play to have 2 of 3 fighting styles (Barehand, Wargloves, Sword) equipped at a time, only one of which can have a single weapon.

This further eliminates Kali sticks as an option, because a player can't have one stick break and suddenly switch to a 1 handed sword animation deck.
  • Ok buddy i have to say here you make verry little sence. If none at all.

"because a player can't have one stick break and suddenly switch to a 1 handed sword animation deck. "

like honestly here? they would all work why would just one break? when you equip wargloves you have 2 your technically dual wield them do they break simultaneously. Yes.

"dual weild" would just be a category, mimicing wargloves same exact durability/break function. Only difference if they would need thier own moves (dual wield moves) that would work with all of these. As i said the key thing is not having odd lengts variations. Hence why i complied these they are mirrored in each hand.

As for the lore they mention ancient monks for drunken fist and the chokuto is basically a katana so definetly asian conections, Most of the ones i posted are more asian then anything so i dont see why the lore would contradict their introduction to the game.
