Infuriated and irritated!

PvP feels so unbalanced right now the exchanges feel off or just weird and due to someone else's connection I'm seeing teleportation and exchanges that shouldn't be. feints that show up resulting in missed hits or attacks that take a much longer time to connect beat my own faster strike. Backwards sweep should never beat a front trip but some how it happened and witnessing frame by frame irks me.

It doesn't help that the poor balance of the game and community of try-hards pushed away many new players that may have stayed. Due to this, connections between players are worse because there aren't many nearby players available.
  • Hi folks

For what it's worth, I got the game over the weekend (50% off special) and I've logged about 12 hours. I was hesitant to try PvP but took the plunge and have worked my way up to around lvl 11. I find it to be very balanced and fair. I've come up against higher level players and still felt like I could compete. I've also felt welcomed by a majority of the players I've encountered, especially in 1v1, friendly bows are exchanged, I've seldom been move spammed and I've thoroughly enjoyed it.
  • PvP feels force, unbalance and unfair. It is by a wide margin the fastest way to level a school. However, how the hell am I, as a level 10 with garbage for gear and less for experience, going to do that when I keep getting paired with players who are much higher level, have better gear and a fully customized combat deck? It doesn't even take any skill. Higher level players will have much more endurance and can just bleed mine out, breaking my block but still have plenty to keep their combo spam.
This is a good game but it's rough around the edges which does drive new players away.
  • OP,

Huh? Back Tripped Kick always beats Tripped Kick. It's a crap ton faster. What region are you located? The NA region is pretty stable after the December update. It's nice other than host advantage is still a serious issue.

Also you say PvP feels unbalanced but gave no reasoning at all. Most people agree this game is extremely well balanced.
  • PvP isn't unbalanced or unfair. It's YOUR choice to enter CT at any point. Is your deck good enough? Do you know it inside and out? Even if you do there is no garuntee that someone can beat you, or you in turn can beat them.

The thing about competing is difficulty, if there is no difficulty then there is no competition. If there is no competiton then there is no fun.

PvP is unbalanced, it'd be a miracle to balance your game perfectly without mass testing.
There are a few moves that are dominating decks currently. If you don't have them, you're at a disadvantage and have to work twice as hard. Defensive actions that are way too powerful, defensive actions that barely work.

Shockwave is so god damn OP too btw. 2 shards, a get off me tool, a pressure tool, full stamina, potential ledging.
Like come the hell on, why did Shockwave get a insane buff from it being fixed as a 1 shard ability?
It did not need that stamina buff, everyone I fight against uses it to regain stamina, not for it's original intent.

I'm really getting bored of out playing my opponent and taking their stamina down, only to have it fully regen cause they suck at managing it and need a crutch.

JXS, I think Duff is right. I'd say If you fill like PVP is too unbalanced then level up your character, get some moves and master your deck. I remember my first oponent, he completely obliterated me and it was still fun as hell (or maybe because of it).

What is really disturbing though is a lack of balance in many other things, shockwave, gold linking and evasive moves amongst them. Some things just give you anvantage and that unfortunately leads to almost similar decks amongst too many players. And it's not like they always copy from each other.
  • you know all these people that have been here since day zero will tell you "pvp is optional or PvP is balanced and for the most part it is in a way.. however.. what the real issue here is new players are running into vets people who have played this game since day zero and they are getting mauled. there is no match making system so nine times out of ten you will be facing someone who has been playing awhile and therefore you will get destroyed. in fact this is so problematic im getting to the point of not wanting to play. I get that the game should be challenging but you got these leet boi's who take great pleasure in simply taking apart newer players and the game doesnt protect the people who are new.. this is the first game ive ever seen that had a pvp component and didnt have some sort of matchmaking
  • There's a safeguard in place for new players that are getting mauled, and it's the school system. If you're new and getting mauled, check if the person that beat you has a school. If they do, join up and see if you can't learn something from how they did it. That being said, someone that has cultivated a deck for months, and has become proficient at blocking and punishing attacks will outshine someone with the same deck, and that's the skill gap. That skill gap can only be surmounted by playing and learning how to defeat different attacks and strategies, but you need a good deck to do it. If you're low level, join a school.

I think the attitude that a good player should go easy on you isn't a good one. If you walk into a martial arts school and challenge the teacher, you'll probably get wrecked and have no idea how it happened -- if that teacher's any good. Same holds true here. And if you're just looking to win, then I'd say also that a competitive fighting game isn't a power fantasy based game -- winning isn't the goal, but getting better at the game. A loss can be a lot more instructive than a win when the skill gap is high, and a fighting game without a high skill gap is a dead one.

  • Finally (three posts in a row, sorry), there are cooperative sparring communities within Absolver where people help each other out. Entering combat trials is entering the lion's den, if you aren't on a friendly playing field with the opponent. If schools and combat trials aren't working for you, join a community that has cooperative sparring.

thats very true except this isnt a martial arts school its a game.. and one with a very thin community at best.. and im not asking to be taken easy.. im asking to be paired with same skill or slightly better not someone who will disallow any movement whatsoever.. every game in the world including for honor has a match making system that pairs you with a person of same skill level

no one asked for handouts no one said take it easy.. all i said was that there is no real matchmaking.. if you like beating the snot out of lesser players because they cannot defend themselves kudos.. when i outclass my opponent i usually just leave the match because its not fun to pummel someone to goo and it doesnt help me get any better either
  • Makes sense, and I don't disagree with you -- when I get paired with low level people that don't block it's not that fun for me, either. On the other side of the coin, the skilled player wants another skilled player to fight. However, as you said, the player base is small, so it's a circular problem. People go into combat trials to fight, and if the only opponent is a high level, then isn't getting paired with a higher level player better than waiting forever for a better match?

I can only think of a few solutions at this point -- and learning from veteran schools, doing co-op sparring, and communicating with people that destroy you in CT's are a few ways to benefit from the experience of high level players. At this point, the game itself is in a great place -- CT's are generally lag-free, start quickly, and with 60fps on PS4, there's no better time to jump into it on either platform. The veterans are the ones who went through the worst of it. At the beginning, you'd be lucky to even have a match that wasn't a rubber-banding lag fest. Now there's the potential to not only play this game at it's full power, but to get good at it through precision timing and mechanics.
