I encountered this bug as well tonight, but I was the one getting the free parries. I'm not sure what triggered it (I thought my controller was starting to fumble inputs!), but I got free parries no matter what I was doing until I manually triggered a parry, then hit detection started to work as normal.
Perhaps something to do with the input buffer following (I may have double flicked the stick?)
