I'd like to see a larger number of players supported in one instance.

For many reasons more people would add more to social aspects, as well as help grow schools. Players could put on exhibitions, challenge other schools or just hang out on the steps of Adal and chill.

Perhaps a opt-in option in Social for larger instances in that tab. Like how there is "Encounter" and "Invitation". There can be a third for larger instance population potential.
It should not be forced, but opted into.

Agree, presenting an option to the player is always better than forcing something upon them. I think a 20 player instance would all you would need, for large events and combat exbo's, as well as just for when people want to hang out and chill.
