Kata Style: Redirect Style/Ability

I really always liked the idea of a style or ability that redirects your opponent instead of fighting them. Instead of dodging or blocking or even interrupting an opponent’s attack, you “catch” it. From there, you have a split second to redirect their momentum. This doesn’t necessarily have to be a “throwing” or “grappling” style, but more a mindset that flows with your opponent’s moves, finding a moment to redirect their attack and give yourself an opening. Maybe a successful redirection forces them to unlock from you. Heck, maybe it would have to be a Shard ability and cost 1 or 2 Shards.

  • The idea of ending the opponent's lock to create/simulate the momentary confusion of redirection is a good one in my opinion. I do not think it would have to be a shard ability balancingwise, since we can block attacks 360° without having to lock on, it does not have any intrinsic advantage over the styles currently in the game.

    Since your concept is based around redirection, an alternate way of implementing it might be to force a stance switch on the opponent? Either sounds interesting to me.

    taichi in martial arts movies has simular gravity and redirecting techniques, i think it was taichi zero the movie,most new movies are like that, even in wrestling counter attacking is common, in taichipanda, makes use of his belly to absorb damage and redirecting too- i personally like presure and grapple points but nothing deadly, so snake style is more or less my favorite, though the gentle fists idea in another posts was good too if called something original.
  • Orbital styles from dancing and hula hooping also use alot of KINETIC force and SPEED.

    Also wish trip could actually knock someone down and attack that defeat a failed defence do more damage.

    Also, those super quick hits should stop 'stunning' players after two hits. Kill stun spam, besides in a real fight you can shrug off most of those and still return your own jabs.
