Grabs in Martial art and Absolver

Hello people! o:)

The love towards Chinese Kung Fu movies and different style of martial art made me fall in love with this game. I can see how deeply developers been working on every move and balance. Seems like a lot of people already thought about this but I want to suggest to add grabs as a counter to very defensive players or help with the initiative switch. Of course, there should be a way to get away from the grab like dodges or fast attacks (charge stopping attacks).

Grabs have been implemented a lot in fighting games, as block punish. In Absolver I think there can be more ways to utilize the grabs.

I want to start this discussion to see what other players can suggest about this and maybe developers will be able to implement this big part of martial art in the game too :p

  • I agree, even just some basic grappling would make a great addition to this game. I think aikido would make a good style to introduce some grappling to the game without the added challenge of adding the ground game as would be necessary if you were to implement, say, BJJ. That said, I'm a big BJJ fan, so a more expansive grappling system would be awesome, too.

I have thought that before,it's a great idea. But grabbing attacks meaning that your opponent is unable to guard, which is a little bit powerful. As I think such attacks need quite a bit stamina to start but have less impact on guard or lower their damage.

And I think grabbing attacks should be a new property in addition to stopping attacks, breaking attacks and parrying attacks. After grabbing your opponents, you can press space key to push them away for recovering your stamina or strike them with your next attack when your opponents are unable to react because of the influence of grabbing attacks.

That is what I think and I hope sloclap could notice my thoughts.@sloclp.Thank you for your hard work.

Totally agree, guarding is a big part of absolver right now. If we are talking about balance, then maybe something, like adding more depth with different guarding techniques and styles with ability to parry, counter-grab or creating a distance, would help? I dont know if it will make game more complicated :D but there are also a stance when you lay on the ground, in pretty much every martial art there are certain defensive moves when you lay down so you know how to protect yourself even in that position...so if there will be a possibility to knock your opponent on the ground by grabs or kicks then it might be a good choice.

I really liked the way mouse works in the game, so I was thinking that creating certain patterns at the certain time can trigger like a grab or counter-grab. I guess it will be a lot easier on the gamepad...

That will be likely to be interesting. :D However, grabbing is different from throwing. You don't have to knock your opponents down but just push them away or strike them. And that might be easier to implement
