Spectator Mode

While we were in beta we’ve been lucky enough to witness some of the intensity that Absolver will bring to players. So that everyone can join in on the fun, we’ll be adding a Spectator mode to the game so you can get inspired by other players and their own mastery of the game’s mechanics.

  • Amazing! I can't wait for this feature!

This will be a great feature, and will make for some great content for Youtubers and Streamers. Analyzing others, and maybe coaching?
  • Looking forward to this. Will be cool to see how other players battle and go about things.
  • This is the first game that I've played that after I went on YouTube to watch other people's fighting styles. I've never been a fan of spectator modes in games, but I can actually see myself using this in the future
  • Hello,

A large part of the community who follows this game are former Jedi Knight players, here is the consensus our community members have noted to me when it comes to spectating.

    - Rooms that are turn based winner keeps fighting, loser switches to spectating and the next person in the lobby fights.
    - Friendly Duel Lobbies (6 Player or Higher limit would be ideal)create a group with friends, much like above take turns spectating and fighting, winner keeps going losers switch to spectating and the next one on the list fights the winner.
    - FFA Lobbies, Players can hang out together in a group and take turns fighting with each other while the other players sit around or even do FFA, group battles.

Love the idea of turns where people can watch then fight. Also like the idea of a FFA arena where we can hang out and practice.
  • I rather have actual content and modes. You can already watch good players via stream and spectate on Twitter.

I rather see voice communication or even just text communication first. Which doesn't even get a mention and surely is a feature most want, some form of communication within the game(beyond simple emotes).

I highly doubt text communication will be added. Its not a feature you just don't get in place early on or accidentally leave out. We will probably get more expressive emotes to communicate with, but this is kind of a ...muted game.

I'd prefer some more content and modes sure, but ultimately, its a fighting game, and if you enjoy fighting games for what they are, or even mobas, you'll be enjoying the game for quite some time without the addition of wildly different content. It is all about the fighting in the end and experiencing that. Though, not trying to downplay what you want, just that some of it is likely intentionally not going to make an appearance.
  • slo-mo replays could be cool.
  • Killcams like in Tekken would be awesome with slo-mo ofcourse :D

    slo-mo replays could be cool.

    slo-mo replays could be cool.

  • camera control please. and not just multiple angles but being able to position the camera freely.
I want some glorious fung fu minifilms to watch and create. bring back machinima.
  • Yeah I definitely want free-flying cams and, also, the ability to save replays, cuz people will make cool vids if they can. See: Rocket League.
  • It would be great to bring some cinematic camera modes so while spectating we can have different perspectives.. The combat is art and it should be captured in that way too not just simply spectate. Thank you
  • The camera idea has to be planned already right? With the love of martial arts movies that the devs have and the possibility to do stuff like that with this game and let the people make it? I would be shocked if they weren't trying to figure out how to make stuff like that happen already

Is it time to make a deal with twitch ? :#
Anyway your cinematics are amazing !

This game has the same problem what poker use to have, it is interesting to play but not that fun to watch. Poker fixed this by showing players cards. Absolver could do something similar. Here is a really badly made image(I'm really sorry about the grammer probelms and the overall badly made image, it is just to show the idea ), to show how it could look like. Show both players from a side or other view ( Would be cool if there could be different camera views aka player 1 view, player 2 view, freecam, both or fight view). This can work in 2 vs 2 or 3 vs 3 as well by only showing the 2 players who are locked on to each other. This could be also done as a replay you can watch at the end or as invisigun with a streamer mode. In this mode they can see the replay but it is flipped and has a ( x amount ) delay, so the streamer can't cheat. Here is a video of totalbiscuit explaing the invisigun system. I feel like this could really help the game, as a competitive e-sports.

    Extra features:

    * Change the speed of the replay

    * Special tournament mode where, because of the delay, the moves that players are doing light up in deck view a few seconds before, so the viewer could keep at that level of play

    * Show / hide UI / Hints

Edit: Heres a comment from the reddit post that can help reduce screen greedyes :

I think it could be further stream-lined to only show current stance and available alt-move. Throughout a match with only 4 stances you're bound to see a lot of one or at least the same stance several dozen times and it's corresponding alt-move. Gets enough data across without being insanely greedy with screen space. - by KexyKnave

  • Hey Kris,

We really appreciate such detailed and exciting ideas! Thank you very much for taking time to write us your suggestions. I'm passing this to the team. I'm sure they'll find it interesting.
  • Personally I'd rather have a larger open world player capacity increase. Or a seperate instance directed at open world PvP as I feel 3 players is just too low.
  • Oh... Thats a cool idea, it will help me to upgrade my skills
  • I think you should have monthly raids
  • I think it would be cool if we could upload our character to this page so other players can see our builds, i think it would brighten this page up some :)
  • So i decided to explore the tutorial section of adal and realized there are two guys fighting off in the distance right after you learn to dash.
I have to say im fairly certain they're on a loop of some sort but ive been watching them fight for at least ten minutes now lol
Spectator mode sounds really intriguing especially for those who make videos or reveiws and such.

I know I'm way late on this thread but I really like this idea. With Absolver being the way it is, this feature fits it well. I'm already looking forward to spectating better players and learning what i can. This is such an original and unique game. And definitely has me captivated. I love the mix of free roam, PvE and PvP. And the community makes the game even more enjoyable. I do got to say that Absolver can do with more diversity in the PvP modes. Don't get me wrong though, I love 1v1 and the 3v3 control type mode. I play them for hours each day. I do have an idea for a mode. Which is sort of like a capture the flag type minus the flag. 2 teams pitted against each other. Each team could be like a school and the other team has the other teams mentor captured and we have to free our mentor while keeping the other teams mentor captive. Another mode is more of a multiplayer brawl like team death match with an Absolver twist to it. Also, maybe add a mode for schools for students to spar amongst each other. Oooo and maybe have an ingame tournament mode for schools. Anyway, just some of the ideas I have. All in all its a great game already and I'm super stoked to see what's in store for us down the road!
  • Raids sounds nice
  • i hope spectator mode is on top of the backlog.
  • when will it come??
  • Nice ! Thank you for improving this amazing game !
  • I originally thought spectator mode sounded dumb, but a friend who plays this and other online games swayed my opinion on the matter. He simply pointed out the social uses that would benefit the whole community and the game itself. So that in mind.... what I would like in this mode.

1 - Free roaming camera control.
That is I want to basically be able to fly around with the camera and look at everything from whatever angle I can find or want. I would totally use this for fun to look at stuff in the map. (I bet some devs dread me doing this at all. )

    2 - Disable HUD options
I would love to disable the HUD both for spectator mode to acquire clean shots and for general game play. After a point you really don't need the HUD for regular game play as you develop an intuitive feeling for game state. I also wonder how well some people would fight without the HUD since you lose info on your opponent's stamina and health. That could work like a high level challenge mode for fights.

Whats going to happen with this feature? Im asking because of what was said in the open letter

    https://www.reddit.com/r/absolver/comments/aakzjm/open_letter_to_absolver_community/

"As for the future of the game, no major new features can be expected at this stage: the team needs to work on other projects in order to keep the company up and running."

Edit: This is a major feature
  • y spectator mode will probably be left out. it would have been so great for Community tournaments and commentary :(
