How does this game look like this AND still run so poorly?

Seriously. I have everything turned down to low, the only thing maxed is render scale. I just get constant flashing light and fps drops no matter where I am.

GeForce GTX960
16gb ram

How is it possible that this game is chugging so hard? I like the graphics style but they're nowhere near being hard to run. I'm constantly just under 60fps and I have drops down to sub 20 depending on the area. I turned render scale down all the way so it looks like minecraft and even though my normal fps is ~70 it STILL drops. I tried a fix by setting the process to high priority but it changed nothing. Turning post process down helps to get it around 50, but the entire game (just got to the boss) the world has been flipping from dark to bright over and over and it is extremely disorienting.

Forget other players, my own framerate is ganking the hell out of me. What do I even do about this?

  • I play this game on an old gaming laptop and it still runs smoothly ( even though i have to turn render scale down). I also have all setting downs to low except shadows, which i set to medium, that fixed the flickering lights for me.
  • Hey Ψ_Forks_Ψ,

    We are sorry to hear that game doesn't run smoothly for you. Have you tried updating your graphics drivers? Also, pay attention whether in the moments of fps drops your PC has intensive data transfer with your storage. If you have HDD, maybe it needs to be defragmented. Try to play with switched off antivirus software.

    Let us know if it helps.

    I found something on Google that seems to have helped immensely. I still get some dips but it's nowhere near as bad. Consider offering this advice to people having low FPS in the future, because I can even turn the graphics up a bit after doing this and I'm still getting 20-30 more fps.

    To unlock the frame rate, you need to go to the AppData\Local\Absolver\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor directory. Open the Engine.ini file and add the following lines under the ConsoleVariables section:

    bSmoothFrameRate = false
    t.MaxFPS = 200
    ShowFlag.VisualizeMotionBlur = 0
    ShowFlag.MotionBlur = 0

    Then open the file GameUserSettings.ini and add the following lines under the /script/engine.gameusersettings section:

    bSmoothFrameRate = false
    ShowFlag.VisualizeMotionBlur = 0
    ShowFlag.MotionBlur = 0

  • Hi Forks,

    We're currently investigating on your issue, do you have a video of the world flipping from dark to bright before you found the .ini workaround?
    Also, do you know if your FPS issues happened in the Combat Trials also?

    We're really sorry about the issues encountered, working on it!
    Best,
  • Shadows are the most intensive thing in this game. It's gotten better, but it IS the most intensive.
  • i have a fairly decent pc and this game still runs like potato. i get 60+ fps on other games on a mix of high to med settings, some examples like gta online, overwatch, ww2, etc, but how can this game not go over 25 fps even on the lowest of settings and eve the render scale at minimum? i got one hour in. i still have the refund option.

    Hi soltgad,

    We are sorry to hear that game performance is not as well as you've expected on your PC. May be you can share with us details of you PC configuration? Have you tried updating the drivers for your graphic card?
  • I have the card up from yours and the same amount of RAM in an i5. My game runs smoothly on max settings.
