Spam decks

Look, let me first say that the idea of being a quick attacker sounds fun, but it is infallible. These builds are the sole reason that I'm quitting. I could live with the bugs, with the crashes, and with the random disconnects; but I refuse to sit here one more second and watch as my health bar slowly dissipates with bell chimes indicating that a little more health been taken from this absurd spam build meta! There IS no counter, but to make a spam build yourself, which as the saying goes: "Fight fire with fire." I don't even know if I want to come back. This is not about skill, this is about who mashes buttons faster!

  • Abuse Charge attacks to intercept and/or punish, block a lot, manage range, use your class skill when you start to get a read on the other player. This is the best advice I can give.
  • To add to what helix said, if you start getting chained use shockwave or earthquake even to reset the engagement.
  • I counter peoples who spam exclusively fast move with attack that do a sidestep. It does wonder, and most of the time they are completely unable to react and you literally trash them
  • And I will add that at some point I tried to build a deck whose purpose was to spam attack since it seemed so effective. Might sound stupid, but I lost numerous time with that spam deck, and that is how I learned to counter them. Each trashing I received with my spam deck taught me how to be a better player.

You NEED some fast attack in your deck to be effective. But if you use ONLY fast attack, against experienced players, it will end up in disaster.
  • The stamina penalty for spamming fast attacks against a blocking player needs to be higher. In real fighting you run out of gas in seconds if you do nothing but attack and the other person calmly defends. In Absolver you just get chipped to death, it's ridiculous and takes no skill.
  • Just block and watch for heavy-hits to turn the pressure. Light attacks do negligible stamina damage so just hang out and learn their deck; there's probably some big moves in there that you can counter/avoid/interrupt.
  • That requires way more skill than the other player just pressing Square over and over, which means one player has to be way better than the other just to beat a cheap tactic. That's the source of the balance issue. I have to be WAY BETTER to beat a guy that's doing nothing but pressing Attack over and over.

I've cooled down a bit since this vent, but I've already tried stopping them with earthquake. Usually, I can get my first quick attack off, which is how I open up then follow with subsequent heavies.

I learned that I NEED a quick attack. In reality, making a deck full of heavies would be too predictable; however, one problem that I've run into is that the heavies I do have are so slow that the enemy player can just quick attack to stop them because they are so fast. I will admit, while I do have quick attack, they aren't as quick as my opponents.

That's a very difficult thing to do, and would require a lot of trial and error to perfect, which frankly I don't think that I should have to go to such lengths to enjoy this game.

That is where building your deck properly get important. Always have a move that while allow you to dodge the incoming fast attack ready. Most of the button spammer are unable to react. For instance, let's say I manage to interrupt a slow attack with a quick jab. A normal button masher will simply try to retaliate by spamming his own fast attack. So follow up you quick attack with a low sweep kick. You will deal alot of damage and his fast jab will pass harmlessly over your head. Heck, I've already defeated one really bad spammer by spamming myself sweep kicks. He simply did'nt know what to do. Against some quick attack, doing a strafing attack work too, if you time it right. Charged attack work well against button spammer too. There is really many options.

As I said, try it. Build yourself a deck with only really quick attack, and try spamming them. You might, ironically, win some matches, but you will inevitably be matched with peoples who will counter you easily. I learned a lot of how to play by spamming fast attack and seeing players trash me.

    Alright, I'll test it.
