Environmental hazard maps aren't fun or competitive and shuold be looked at.

These two maps just don't promote fun gameplay in the the slightest IMHO.
I've even started forfeiting them and just jumping off the edge so i can re-q and get another map.
ALot of the enjoyment of absolver pvp is progressiong round to round learning the other players deck and how to counter it.
On the enviromnetal maps it just ends up being who can cheese who into falling 1st.
the big rock one is the worst, but actually the bookshelf room isnt good either because people get obsessive about positioning and refuse to move for minutes at a time. let alone when you can avoid the edges on that one you end up backed inot corners and the camera becomes very annoying.
thanks.

  • Not a fan of them myself. Luckily the few times I played the library map, the other players and myself tried to avoid hitting each other off. But not everyone is like that :/
  • if only it didnt kill you. multi tiered maps so if you get knocked off its only some health. Then the other can just go down some stairs. I do think positioning on ledges should be important but as a side-note not a win condition.
  • i think there is also a larger issue with how ledges work in this game. it seems way to easy to 'slide' off an edge as opposed to actually being knocked off.
also, as i already mentioned the library map is a double headache because of the how charaacter models collide with walls being not ideal.
Regardless, these maps continue to be the least competitive maps and the big rock in the sky one is pretty much a joke/troll map.
  • just remove them already

I don't mind them, but I can understand your frustration completely.

If I can be of any help, I'd suggest staying OFF the staircase in the "library" type map and fighting enemies at the more secure areas at the top/bottom floors. While the walls can be a pain to get locked into, they're at least more forgiving than ledges.

For the Oratian Quarter type map, I usually try to keep myself on the whole areas and toward the center. And, if possible, try establishing a bit of an honor system with your opponent(back off when they're toward the edge, give them time to get away from edges, and keep the fight in safe areas). Most of the time, they hate the edges just as much as you do and are willing to keep the fight fair.

If those tactics fail, just try and be more aware of your surroundings. If you think you're in danger of getting hit off an edge, slide so that you and your enemy's positions are reversed, or bring Earthquake to create some distance.

  • They don't need to remove the maps. But just add a freaking railing. It isn't fair to just say "remove it" because those are assets down the drain. However, adding just a few objects to make it impossible to fall out would be great. They could be blocks of broken ruin pieces for the floating rock one. Or ornate golden railings for the library. Any game that just has an instant KO with very little effort actually used is kinda lame, and with the shockwave ability, it becomes easy to do it.
  • the rock donut map pisses me off because it would've actually been a pretty good map without the hole in the middle

holy shit i thought you were joking. i completely missed that part in the patch notes
  • on 1vs1 the enviroment means that if you are lucky to be in one map and to have equipped the right skill you can actually one shoot your opponent: isn't skill based, it's frustrating, isn't fun. It's a child thing that have sense if you can actually choose the map BEFORE and choose the abilities BEFORE the match start.
  • I like it. Adds a sense of danger and forces me to think about other variables too. Combat Trials would be too plain without other environmental factors to think about. If anything, they could slightly change the mechanics so it's not too easy to fall off, but if you take a hard hit to the face near the ledge and get knocked off, that's your fault.

Most of the time I end up having to limit my aggression to avoid a cheap kill that I don't want to get. This causes a weakness in my ability to fight. If I decide to use the ledge, the fight becomes too easy and my opponent has much fewer ways of combating me.

I don't like these at all.
Donut specifically should not be a donut.
Ledges are fine as long as they aren't over abundant like on Library or Donut.
Did I mention how annoying it is to fight on Donut?
  • They could patch it so that you can only get knocked off by certain attacks (Not abilities) i.e. slow, wind up attacks, or you can only be hit of by certain warglove attacks, since i don't see anyone using them.
